Rattan chairs have long been described as Godfather chairs. 

The reason for this is because of a scene in The Godfather Part II starring Al Pacino and Lee Strasberg. In the scene, which takes place in Cuba, the character Hyman Roth (played by Strasberg) has united various families together to celebrate how they will split up control of the country. Michael Corleone (played by Pacino) is skeptical as they pass around slices of cake. 

During the scene, all of the characters are sitting in rattan armchairs on a hotel patio. The rattan armchairs in the film are what we like to call 6 Strand, Square Pretzels at Harvey's on Beverly. They have this name because the arms are made from six strands of rattan poles in a square, pretzel shape. The particular chairs use in the movie are based off of rattan designs from the 1930s and 1940s.

If you provide us with the fabric, we can reupholster any of our chairs to match the ones that Michael Corleone and Hyman Roth are sitting on. While the chairs are seen outside during this scene, we do not recommend you keep your rattan furniture exposed to the elements. Rattan furniture is best enjoyed indoors.
