Renowned American silver designer Alfred G. Kintz commenced his tenure at International Silver around 1910 and concluded his career in 1959. A comprehensive article titled "Alfred G. Kintz: An American Designer" authored by Patricia F. Singer, was published in Silver Magazine in September/October 1986, spanning pages 14 to 19.

Kintz is credited with the creation of several significant flatware designs, including Prelude and Royal Danish, which emerged as two of the most popular flatware patterns of the 20th century. In 1928, he introduced three iconic Art Deco designs, one of which was an earlier iteration of Northern Lights. The subsequent Northern Lights design, patented by Kintz in 1946, underwent a substantial transformation, incorporating elements influenced by Scandinavian Modern design, particularly reminiscent of Georg Jensen's style, which began making its presence felt in the United States following World War II.
