Early Mid-century sculpted teak occasional chair by designer T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings for the Widdicomb furniture company. The chair features a dark stain and a U-shaped back that forms a seamless armrest with original soft broadcloth fabric. T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings was a British-born architect, furniture designer, and writer known for his influential role in shaping American interiors by blending classical Greek design with modern sensibilities. After opening his own design business in New York City in 1936, he became a prominent decorator for clients like Doris Duke and, later, Aristotle Onassis. His style is characterized by a combination of Grecian and Art Deco elements, stripped down to their essential forms to create elegant, modern pieces. He also moved permanently to Greece, where he continued designing and writing about classical design until his death. Measurements: 30" Tall X 25" Width X 26" Deep United States, 1940
