Bakelite was the major form of art plastic from the 1930s through to the 1950s. It was patented by Belgian born Leo Hendrik Baekeland in New York, in 1907, and was the first truly synthetic and thermosetting plastic. Thermosetting meant that it could not be melted or changed by heating once formed. It was marketed as the worlds first synthetic plasitc. This is a very rare set of vintage art deco bakelite with dual tones perfect for a collector or lover of vintage flatware. Great to Good condition with minimal to no damage, needs some light polishing. Light ware due to time and use, but there are no broken or loose parts. No burns or marks just light dirt over time. A very rare set that could complete an existing set! These are stainless steel flatware that will last a lifetime! (5) fork, 7 1/4"ed bakelite knives, 9 1/8"l (6) green & butterscotch bakelite knives, 9 1/8"l (3) tablespoon, 7 5/8"l (10) teaspoons, 6 3/4"l oollll llhhhh
