Designer Spotlight: Walter Lamb

Posted by Harvey Schwartz on Jan 7th 2020

After World War II, Robert Brown of Brown Jordan, a furniture company, introduced furniture made from reclaimed metals. Robert Brown collaborated with with a popular designer, Walter Lamb, these modern prototypes were crafted utilizing bronze and copper tubing salvaged from sunken naval ships at Pearl Harbor.  Lamb’s signature curvy furniture pieces, lounge chairs, dining tables, benches and more, combine extruded metal frames with hand-wrapped, marine-grade cording that is flexible and comfortable to use, but durable enough to withstand outdoor use and the weather. The bronze or copper frames don't rust and they develop a beautiful patina over time.

Walter Lamb's signature tubular furniture is quite simplistic—but also incredibly classic. He created relaxing, curvy shapes of outdoor furniture pieces: lounge chairs, seating, dining tables, benches and more, by combining the salvaged bronze and copper with canvas and yacht rope. The result is very cool, comfortable outdoor seating.
