Can rattan go outside?

One of the most common questions we get at Harvey's on Beverly is "Can my rattan furniture go outside?"
While rattan furniture looks great outside and is often photographed that way, it is best left inside. Rattan furniture is made from a strong climbing vine and behaves similar to wood. Prolonged exposure to the elements, particularly a rainy/wet climate, will affect rattan in a similar way to traditional wooden furniture.
If you are absolutely keen on having your rattan furniture live outdoors, please let us know and we can coat it with a special varnish. Even after this process is completed, we still recommend keeping your rattan furniture under some kind of canopy or covering when they are not in use. You may luck out with keeping your rattan pieces outside. The choice is yours.
