The 1970s chrome ball joint robot lamp by Torino Lamps is a striking, retro piece of functional art, combining futuristic design with a playful character. The lamp was made by the Torino Lamp Company part of Atrio Consolidated Industries out of Miami Florida.
Standing 28 inches tall, it features a chrome-plated body that shines with a polished finish The robot’s head is a large, half-chrome globe lightbulb, with smaller chrome lightbulbs serving as its hands, all mounted on an 11-inch diameter base. The nose serves as the light switch: one turn lights up the head, eyes, and hands; two turns light only the head and eyes; three turns light just the hands; and a final turn switches everything off. The arms and upper torso can tilt forward and backward up to 20 degrees With hoop earrings dangling from its head, the lamp hints at a feminine design, though the earrings can be removed to give it a more neutral or masculine look. This playful and versatile design makes it a distinctive 1970s futurist look.
