Extremely rare, museum-quality four-strand square pretzel round-back 3-seater sofa designed by Paul T. Frankl in 1934 using the highest-quality rattan poles and reeds available and restored by rattan experts to ensure structural integrity and longevity and created for one of Frankl’s elite Hollywood clients.
Made of steam-bent rattan poles, the sofa features Frankl’s hallmark decorative wicker woven wrappings of rattan strips. The piece comes from a home Frankl designed in Los Angeles in the mid-to-late 1930s. The price includes a first-edition copy of Frankl’s book where this is pictured, Space for Living: Creative Interior Decoration and Design (Doubleday Doran, 1938).
This is in its original condition from 1934, with a little touch up but has remained in its original condition due to its age and significance.
